It's a very large gym, but like Altoona, it's pretty far away from the action. Seemingly any District 6 vs. WPIAL state playoff game gets placed there, Norwin, or Gateway.

Our girls played at North Catholic last year. Really nice school/gym.Crimson's Ghost wrote:It's a very large gym, but like Altoona, it's pretty far away from the action. Seemingly any District 6 vs. WPIAL state playoff game gets placed there, Norwin, or Gateway.

I'll be in Huntingdon for the Central boys game tonight. The Bearcats handled Central pretty easily in Martinsburg early in the season but the 2 teams closed out the season with a 73-68 Bearcat win in Huntingdon. In the season finale Central's Joey Smith went for 24 points and 23 rebounds and the Dragons could really use another big time performance from him again tonight. The deciding factor however may be the outside shooting, in their 2 matchups Central is a combined 3-36 from beyond the arc. The Bearcats on the other hand have hit 10+ 3s in each game. In the other 4A boys matchup I'll take Johnstown on the road vs Tyrone.
The game I'm most intrigued by tonight is the lone 3A girls tilt between CC & PV (not sure why they are playing tonight and the rest of the 3A field is tomorrow). When the bracket was released I said I don't think anyone would be surprised if the 6 seed CC would win it. PV can be a tough matchup for anyone and has impressive early season wins over Juniata Valley & Central along with a couple wins over Tyrone & Hollidaysburg to close out the year. Should be a good one.

The LHAC is certainly the best conference for hoops ... it also has to do with matchups .. Central Cambria is probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in AAA this season but was seeded 5th ... Bellwood beat Mount Union twice and also Penns Valley who were both in the bracket ... Mount Union actually won their 1st-round game vs Juniata (so what's taht say for Juniata's conference) ... but clearly wasn't in the same league as CC ...CCDevil2012 wrote:I would not say they're strictly better or worse top to bottom, but the records are sometimes misleading. 5 of CC's losses were to the Catholics. Swap those games out for a couple ICC bottom feeders and suddenly they're 17-5 like Bellwood, not 12-10. Then 2 other losses were to a very athletic Johnstown team and Richland. They had some bad losses as well but in a weaker league this team could easily be 18-4CoachFranklin wrote:The Laurel Highlands is so far ahead of every conference in the area it’s just unreal. The fact that a 12-10 LHAC team beat a 17-5 ICC team by 24 points in a playoff game is just astonishing to me. Figured CC would win but not by 24 points, especially with the game being played at Bellwood. I wish CC and Richland would have been on opposite sides of the bracket, would’ve loved to see how they would’ve faired against a pretty good Ligonier Valley team. The mountain league is pretty good as well with Central, Huntington, and Tyrone but wow the LHAC is just in a league of its own from the top to the bottom.CCDevil2012 wrote:CC 77

Well this particular year the LHAC could very well win all 8 district titles A-AAAA boys and girls combined. But most years it's probably closer to 3-4

29-27 CC over PV at half. PV had a 15-6 run to close the half
Playoff basketball scores 2-19 to 2-24.
I don’t see LHAC winning 2A girls and will be tough for CC or Westmont to 3A. Everett and Central are pretty good teams and don’t forget West Shamokin as well.
Boys side will have 3A boys winner from LHAC 2A likely. Both A classes will be Juniata Valley vs Bishop Carroll for titles
