State Finals
Re: State Finals
Altoona University has won 5 out of the 6 total football state championships District 6 has ever won. But those kids are all there for an education right? Athletics has nothing to do with it I'm sure. Port Allegany, who draws from only the kids in an actual physical school district boundary, will probably never make another state title game. I’m sure Altoona U will just reload and be back next year or within the next 5 years drawing from so many areas.D6sportsfan8819 wrote: December 5th, 2024, 5:28 pm We were having this conversation when they were in 2a. So, that doesn’t fly for me. We all know what this is. I accept most of it. But to demean and denigrate kids for their hard work, simply out of spite and hate in the form of calling them the central pa all stars, and saying falsely they come from multiple counties is wrong. And I’m not taking away the hard work that port Allegheny did. 15-0, had the game tied, showed a tremendous amount of strength, grit, skill, and pride. Super impressed and proud of their accomplishments as well. We can make points without demeaning kids is all.
Re: State Finals
One county? Every kid on their roster resides in Blair county? Not one kid from Bedford, Cambria, Centre, or Huntingdon counties?D6sportsfan8819 wrote: December 5th, 2024, 4:53 pm They all reside in on county not multiple. And if you care to look at the video the school instagram page put out, they’ve all(maybe with the exception of 1-3 players) been in the altoona catholic system since grade school. And the ones that did come in after that were altoona kids that came in as sophomores and freshman. Congratulations to Port Allegheny on a tremendous season. And congratulations to bishop Guilfoyle on their championship.

Re: State Finals
I could see this argument initially, but BG won their first title in 2014, 10 years ago. If you were a parent of a grade school age child who was showing interest in football, where would you send them? Altoona or Hollidaysburg where they’ll have lots of travel and forgettable seasons? Or BG where they’ll regularly compete for a state championship?D6sportsfan8819 wrote: December 5th, 2024, 4:53 pm They all reside in on county not multiple. The seniors on this team would have been in second grade 10 years ago and the freshman not even in school. Lots of opportunity at that point to “be in the Altoona Catholic school system since grade school” where everyone else, besides physically moving, is bound by school lines

You play to win the game!!!
Re: State Finals
Congrats to BG - there is no doubt that they work hard, have good kids and got what they were after. But hey, having the success that they have had over the past 10-15 years isn't magic. It's not about having the greatest players or greatest coaches in the area, it's about legally making the best of an unfair advantage. For every father of a kid that plays single A football in D6 (like me), it's really disappointing that your kid and school have an almost zero chance of winning a district title. It's most disappointing knowing that BG had the opportunity to take the high road and didn't. That's what really gets me. Hats off to Port Allegheny!! They made the best of an unfair fight.

Re: State Finals
Answer these questions honestly, in Single A...
Is BG vs Glendale an evenly fair matchup?
Is BG vs Claysburg an evenly fair matchup?
Is BG vs Northern Cambria an evenly fair matchup?
EVERYONE knows the answer..... it's a joke
"But BG works SOOOOO much harder than any other team, has better coaches than any other team, and wants it more than any other team"
***insert sarcastic eye roll***

AA? More like 3A or 4A! But still.....congrats to any D6 team that wins a state title.Goldeneagles12 wrote: December 5th, 2024, 4:58 pm If BG was up in AA where they should be. We wouldn't be having this conversation. I was really hoping Penn Cambria would have made it and won. Like to see another public school like Tyrone win it all.
It ain't over until it's over.

Re: State Finals
Hell of a AA game. Troy scores with a minute left to make it 25-24. Central Clarion misses a 50 yard field goal as time expires.
Re: State Finals
Another wild one tonight. Roman wide open receiver drops it for the game winning td. McDevitt misses a FG as time expires. Roman misses a FG in OT after their QB got hurt. McDevitt kicker barely clears the crossbar by inches to win 34-31. Great day of football despite the cold weather.
