Re: Special Interview with the 2005 Pitt Panthers and Wannst
First of all, give the credit for "WannSPLAT" to who first started using it.
Secondly, you cannot polish a turd. Say what you want, but he was a failure as a head coach in every place he coached. AND the retarded Dolphins replaced him with someone even less competent. Nick Saban is the most over-rated coach of our generation.
Thirdly, the Pitt - ND game will tell the worth of both teams. When it's a toss-up, give the nod to the best coaching staff. Notre Dame wins by 9.
Fourth, it IS possible that Pitt sucks, and Penn State sucks. It's okay to be honest here, dimwits.

Oh yeah, how quickly we forget that West Virginia is the best team in the nation!!! The teams Penn State plays, such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Iowa, are so weak as to be laughable, compared to the might Mountaineers!!!

HOLLYWOOD, Pitt was never better than Penn State until a couple of years ago, and they arent that much better at that, I`m not going anywhere with this, its not to fire anyone up, but how many Nation Championships does Pitt have?

Pitt is NOT better than Penn State and neither is WVU as a program.
I love how PSU is supposedly scared to play teams...
WVU says it, Pitt says it, who else wants to say it??? Sorry suckers, but the mighty Nits have a limit to OOC games.
WVU and Pitt, both, will never...NEVER...never be major players among college football's elite. Penn State already joined that group of teams regardless of the last few years when they were down. They earned it over about 40 years of being consistently great! They are among the teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, etc. Over the long haul...they have been about as solid as they come and that is what puts a team at the level they are at. Should they fail the rest of this decade and begin filling only half their stadium (which would be a sellout still at most places, but we won't go there with attendance since it doesn't mean squat, but it does and I'll explain in a moment) then they will fall from this level. Until then, thanks for being our little sister and our little brother programs.

Re: Special Interview with the 2005 Pitt Panthers and Wannst
What does attendance mean to the Nittany Lions???
Attendance means an awful lot to the PSU football program and their athletic programs. Please take a few minutes to review the following materials to see why.
First, Penn State has a fan base that they have to please. The best way to do this is to play home games so these folks can see their favorite team play. This is the PR part of it.
Financially playing 2 out of 3 OOC games at home is a must. If they play 4 games, they want 3 at home. They will take on of the OOC games and play a home and home with someone. They have proven this with Nebraska, Miami, Virginia, Notre Dame, Alabama, Boston College, and Syracuse over the last few years and few more to come. Sorry Pitt and WVU, you didn't fit into the plans this time around. The Nits don't need to hear your whining and complaining though because they are spreading around the country seeing new and old teams and hopefully expanding their recruiting, etc. Also, with their alumni association being the biggest in the nation it is key to move around the country a bit so former PSUers can see their squad play in person!
This is a very rough figure, but it is a number that should help you understand why the Nits have to play at home as much as possible.
If I average the price of tickets between student cost for 30,000 tickets and the rest of the crowd at about 78,000 tickets I figured the number to be right around $45. How close this is exactly I do not know.
$45 x 108,000= $4,860,000 That's right...almost $5 million bucks just in ticket sales! Note- I didn't include expensive luxury box seats either.
Let's just estimate that they make another 300,000 bucks at the concession stands.
How about parking which can range from $5 to about $10. We'll use 7.50 as our average and multiply it times 25,000 cars. $187,500 in parking at a home game....not bad money!
The town of State College as a whole also makes a ton of money when there is a home football game. I don't even want to venture a guess as to how much money is made during a football game.
Anyway, I am probably missing a lot of other things in terms of money (including television, etc), but we'll let it stand where we are now anyway. From tickets, food at the game, and parking, Penn State makes $5+ million dollars.
You play two teams that will come to Penn State every year (Temple, MAC schools, etc) and you play one game in a home and home versus a very good team/program. This is what PSU has done in recent years and they have to continue to do. You can't just throw away tons of cash to make everyone who wants a piece of you happy. It doesn't work that way. It can't.
