Explaination for why LHAC has open date at end of season?
Explaination for why LHAC has open date at end of season?
Looking for why LHAC does this. Is it because it affects playoffs differently or something. I know it's been discussed before but I'm looking to fully understand this. If they would move their open date to the first week like everyone else they can schedule quality opponents from outside the area.

Re: Explaination for why LHAC has open date at end of season
The WPIAL just changed their policy, they will start conference play week 1. And to my knowledge the District has "A" teams playing a 10th game this season, as they are cutting from an open 16 tournament, to a 8 team tournament for playoffs.
IMO, I dislike that the LHAC jsut finds another LHAC team in their 10th game....
I know in past seasons....Forest Hills played Karns City. McCort played Bradford. Johnstown did a game with Tyrone also. Those are better games for playoff preparation...

Agreed. Although J-Town did get beat pretty bad in that game and then bailed on their obligation to play the game again the following year.

Re: Explaination for why LHAC has open date at end of season
Well the WPIAL format for last year was this.....
AAAA and AAA usually went nonconference in weeks 1 and 2, hence why you see a lot of the High profile WPIAL teams play out of state ect....
Week 1 last year saw....
Central Catholic take on Archbishop Wood.
Woodland Hills-Thomas Jefferson
Penn Hills-St Ed's of Ohio.
Gateway-Bishop McDevitt
and so on and so forth.....
Whereas AA and A have 4 conference in each with 2 leagues having 9 teams and two with 8.
For instance the AA Interstate conference has 9 teams, thus giving them 8 conference games and 1 nonconference game, and every team plays a team from the Midwestern Conference. So 8 league games and one with a different WPIAL league covers all 9 regular season games.
A has the same format.
SO I don't see how the LHAC can get a game with anyone from the WPIAL if they hold true to that format, so basically their best chance is out of state, or District 9, maybe D10 or out East.....But WPIAL takes care of themselves.

I completely agree, the LHAC should schedule a random team for at least 1 week. Shake it up a little bit.
