North Star at West Greene just scheduled
Geibel informed West Greene Wednesday that they didn't have enough players to play at West Greene's homecoming game. Fortunately, they found North Star. It's a crime that the PIAA permits Geibel to back out of games (pick and choose?) with no consequences.

Are you Meyersdale's AD? Either you have enough players or you don't. Or would you expect schools to dress cheerleaders or majorettes to meet their contractual obligations?
I do agree that the PIAA should require teams to have twenty to twenty-five players on their rosters before they can begin a season but really, what consequences would you impose on a team that has been decimated by injury eight weeks into the season?

Re: North Star at West Greene just scheduled
Geibel pulled out from games last year and previously did it this season. The opposing schools schedule homecoming, senior nights, and special events for most of their games. To have that game taken away, and likely not be able to re-schedule is disgusting because Geibel refuses to read the handwriting on the wall. They need to get off their high perch and co-op with another team or just offer more sports rather than football.
Consequences? The opposing school should be compensated for loss ticket sales plus inconvenience.

Good for both North Star and West Greene! I wish both teams well for this game! Playing football is always more fun than not playing it. Especially for a homecoming night.

Isn't Ferndale picking and choosing too?
Re: North Star at West Greene just scheduled
Like I said, the PIAA should impose minimum roster sizes before a team can begin its season. What should that minimum be?
How do schools that don't have football teams celebrate homecoming?
If you run out of players during a season what is the proper way to continue to meet your contractual obligations?

And why would Geibel (or Ferndale) pick or choose a game against a 1-6 team to back out of? Ridiculous accusation.
Re: North Star at West Greene just scheduled
Geibel ran into not enough players problems last year.
They should have been smarter than "wishing on a star" that they'd have enough players this year.
All season, this year and last, they have been losing to teams 60-70-80 points who were previously winless.
Their problem should not then become their opponents problem. Show some class and co-op or don't offer football. Fine them $1,300 per cancelled game and they will quickly learn if or when they should field a football team for the season.

How will this at least 20 man roster work? Lets say a team starts at 24 at the beginning of the year and ends the season w/ 19 kids. Does this imaginary school have to forfeit games the weeks where they don't have at least 20 kids?
Re: North Star at West Greene just scheduled
My proposal would be based on your actual numbers at the beginning of the prior season. You must have twenty kids in grades 8-11 on your varsity and junior high rosters. This will allow for the 2-3 kids who may decide to play and the 3-4 who will quit, move or otherwise be unable to play. Schools with small numbers will be monitored by district and conference officials to ensure actual participation vs. reported participation.
This should help but will not totally eliminate the possibility of in-season forfeits. Having a roster of twenty does not necessarily mean being safely able to field a team. How many of those twenty are capable of wearing a jersey number higher than 49 and lower than 80?
