Coaches
Galen Head - Head Coach of Hockey in the 90's. McCort won the State Championship in four straight seasons from 1994-1997. McCort had a 55-0-3 record from 1995-1997.

Ken Salem - The McCort Football Coach from 1996-2010, and finished with 135 wins. 5 District Six Titles, including a Four-peat from 2006-2009. 4 LHAC Championships, and Guided McCort to a State title appearance in 2009.

Tim Koshute - 364 career wins in 22 seasons as the Head Basketball Coach. 5 District Six Titles, 1 State Title appearance in 1985.

Joe Shumock - Only spent 5 seasons at McCort, but was the head coach during the 39 game winning streak of the early 1960's. 40-7-3 record while at McCort, was later inducted to the PA Football Coaches Association HOF after a successful run at Abington HS in suburban Philadelphia.



Would have to think about one involving athletes. Pete Duranko is the only one that is absolutely certain on there.

I was checking on his stats, and it appears he had one really good season in 1993, but career stats aren't as up there. Obviously going on to play at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Bengals, Panthers and Patriots warrants recognition.


Jack Ham was obviously the most renowned player from McCort, as he is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was an instrumental part of the Steel Curtain for the Steelers in the 70's. I was told he was not the greatest HS player and Paterno really took a chance on him.

So if it's a matter of what they did here, or what they did after McCort would certainly alter this list.

Of all 6 McCort professional football players, it seems only Duranko had the legendary McCort career to go with success afterwards.

Even Andrew Hawkins had an injury plagued career at McCort and had a bumpy ride before becoming a multimillionaire with the Cleveland Browns last month.

Some of the more recent athletes whether it be basketball, baseball, or football have had more prolific careers.

Baseball guys like Harrington and Cooper, Basketball with Trexler and O'Conner, and Football with Lowry, Seidel, Lewis ect.


So, basically. Good topic, but a hard one.

I wouldn't put him on there not even close, but as far as great mccort "basketball" players, he's had one of the most decorated careers. All time leading scorer, won D6 titles, member of two all state teams.

But McCort's football history trumps all other sports, and that was my point a lot of McCort athletes went on to great things afterwards but a far as records and accolades go, more recent athletes hold a lot of those records.
