Could 2012-13 Richland rams compete with 2004/2005 LHAC?

Post by ramfan25 »

I honestly don't think they could, most all teams were solid with many d 1 players... What are your thoughts?

I wasn't around to see the 2004-2005 LHAC so I can only look at the records and stats, and would say by that measure the 2012-2013 Rams would have done pretty well. In fact, the 2013-2014 would have faired equally as well if not better using the same stats.

I guess the bigger question for me is: are the last few years at RHS a result of the recently-graduated Senior class being athletically gifted or is it the result of the system in place bearing fruit? This season will be telling. The seniors are gone, there are some coaching shuffles, and there will be a lot of new kids starting. We'll see how it goes.

I believe the last year's RHS JV team was either undefeated or lost one, which may or may not mean much in the big scheme. I hope the kids play to their potential and the coaches lead to theirs.

Actually trying to compare teams between different era's even in the past 15 years was tough, but I did tackle that 2 years ago.
I made a list of the top 20 teams since the year 2000.

20. 2004 Bedford
19. 2010 Bishop Carroll
18. 2010 Forest Hills
17. 2007 Bishop McCort
16. 2008 Hollidaysburg
15. 2010 Johnstown
14. 2006 Bellwood-Antis
13. 2000 Windber
12. 2005 Forest Hills
11. 2009 Bishop McCort
10. 2011 Tyrone
9. 2005 Bishop Carroll
8. 2004 Johnstown
7. 2001 Bishop McCort
6. 2001 Bishop Carroll
5. 2002 Forest Hills http://floodsportsblog.blogspot.com/201 ... ms_23.html
4. 2006 Bishop McCort http://floodsportsblog.blogspot.com/201 ... ms_24.html
3. 2000 Tyrone http://floodsportsblog.blogspot.com/201 ... ms_28.html
2. 2004 Tyrone http://floodsportsblog.blogspot.com/201 ... teams.html
1. 2003 Bishop Carroll http://floodsportsblog.blogspot.com/201 ... ms_05.html

This list was compiled two years ago, upon getting feedback and advice, I probably would shuffle things around a little, but not much.

Now where does Richland fit in here? The 2012 team is the one that would go on the list for their trip to the Western Final, and they had a stronger line and a few more weapons offensively. I'd compare them to 2010 Johnstown, so ,maybe somewhere in that 15-16 range. But you should also compare them to the two best teams of the past 5-6 years, and they are 2009 Bishop McCort and 2011 Tyrone, I peg Richland slightly below Tyrone since they didn't break into the state final against Aliquippa, but Tyrone did. Looking at them against 2009 McCort is a tough call, it's basically anyone's preference. Both teams had strong lines, although I think McCort's was better. Richland had a much stronger passing game. Both teams would have been able to do their thing against each other, and it would've been a fun game.

Which year did Tyrone win the state championship? They'd have to be at the top, right?

-I personally would put the 2004 Tyrone team at #1 (I played against them)...biggest highschool offensive line I have ever seen along with a powerful running game, a good solid passing game, and a stable of skill players. Plus led by one of the best if not the best coach in PA in John Franco.

-I would also have the 2011 Tyrone team a little higher as well, best high school passing offense I have ever seen in this area. QB Steve Franco AP Player of the year and a PIAA State Championship appearance.

-Another team to add to this list is the 2012 Bellwood-Antis team, VERY VERY VERY FAST all around. Probably the fastest team Bellwood-Antis has ever had. The 2006 BA team and the 2012 BA team were probably the 2 most talented teams BA has ever had

The 2007 McCort team had a better passing attack than 2011 Tyrone. State's second leading passer, state's leading receiver, division one tight end.

2004 Tyrone was very good, but '03 Carroll was a very, very good team. Koening and Forcellini in one backfield is absurd.

2012 Bellwood was good, they could probably replace that 2010 BC team. This list was made prior to that season. 2012 Richland beat them that year, and advanced further in a higher classification. They'd be slated higher.

2013 Central has a case.

2004 Tyrone team got jipped out of the state championship appereance and lost on a controversial call against Grove City in the Western Finals

And 2012 Bellwood has Richland on the ropes and let it slip away, however both teams made it to the Western Finals in 2012.

2007 McCort may have had better stats but 2011 Tyrone made it to the State Championship and had the AP Player of the year in Steve Franco

Your a LHAC guy and I am a MAC/ICC guy hahaha we will have different oppinions on things. However, ALL of these teams listed we VERY VERY good!!!
