100 Points
To watch a single A school put up 100 points on a AAA school was a sight to see. It also was very evident that Johnstown is a shell of its former self. Little to none adjustments and to be honest the coaching staff looked like they were in over their heads. You have clip board holders with no one giving direction to the kids. Looked down at the other bench and you see constant interaction and teaching. It is evident Johnstown has a ton of talent, but to see such undisciplined defense with the size, speed and athleticism Johnstown has it was clear they haven’t been coached very well to this point. I had seen several arguments throughout the game in the crowd about the coach’s kids playing time. First game in and this is already an issue. Johnstown will win some games just on pure talent but don’t expect much this year or going forward, it’s going to take a learning curve for Price and staff to figure out you can’t coach boys like you coach girls.

Re: 100 Points
I think Johnstown will get better, that's a tough opening game for anyone.
Johnstown has some talent, but in terms of teams they've had in that school over the past 15 years, this isn't one of their better teams.
Bishop Carroll has better guards than them, it is what it is.
Johnstown probably has the highest winning percentage of any team in the area from 2003 on. They're the only local boys team to make it to Hershey any time recently. I know you came back and said "shell of their former self" a few months back
I think people need to realize the Greater Johnstown school district and the Altoona school district are never going to be what they used to be ever again. Johnstown is a very different place, and you have to judge their teams oh what they are now and not back then. But given what they have they still are usually the best basketball program around bar none, even if they are playing a bunch of teams they should beat.

Wasn't Price given a lifetime contract and the keys to the Union Social Club after guiding the girls to a .500 record just a year ago?

Crimson,
I agree with some of the points you make but I was at the game last night and I believe they have a lot of talent using just the eye test. Also we can all agree Carroll was better last year and Johnstown has everyone back from last year, but got beat worse and gave up 100 points. Everyone knew what Carroll was going to do and Johnstown was not prepared or didn’t have a game plan. That is unacceptable. I know basketball and I know talent when I see it and Johnstown has a bunch of it but for some reason it is not transitioning on the court or field. I’m a big BC supporter but they are not more talented than Johnstown. 30 plus turnovers with no tweaks to attacking the press. Probably over 20 layup given up on defense, players just running around trying to trap and getting beat. News flash coach that’s not working. Last but not least a coach’s worth is determined by what they do with less. Even if Johnstown is down as people would like to believe they still have more than most and should definitely put up a better showing then that.

That's on coaching not being ready for what Carroll was going to throw at them.
I'll give them a pass for it being the season opener. There's a good chance the teams will meet for the LHAC championship. I'll be interested to see if Johnstown is more ready to play this game 2 months from now, although Somerset may beat them out for section II.
I wasn't there and didn't really check the box score. How did Johnstown's 6'4" sophomore look?

I'm not very familiar with class of the players but Johnstown had several kids around that height. Robinson and Gause if any of them are sophomores played okay. The Gause kid battled and scored a lot of garbage points and easy lay ups. Robinson plays more on the perimeter and is very long and athletic.Crimson's Ghost wrote:That's on coaching not being ready for what Carroll was going to throw at them.

Looked very good on the inside. I think he had 17 and close to 10 blocks. Every time I looked he was coming out of the game. Their personnel and substitution made little sense to me. Yes they were far superior in athleticism but far inferior in basketball skill.

Prophet,
You must have been seated close to me bc that crowd was brutal at times.

Ok yeah Gause is his name I think. He used to have longer hair, maybe still does. I picked him out a few years ago and thought he had a chance to have a special career. Watched him a few times in junior high since. 17 points and 10 blocks in his first varsity game is a good start.
Robinson is a senior, Shaquan Reid also is a senior. They would be forwards hanging on the perimeter a little. Reid slashes some. Updyke is a junior, usually plays tough inside being a bit undersized.
My guess at their guards would be Brandon and both Prices.
Am I right on those accounts?

Does the Holsinger kid play for BC?
