Today's sports section, page 2, had an article about WVU head baseball Coach Randy Mazey, and some proposals he has for college baseball as a whole. He wishes for the bulk of their season to be pushed back from Feb.-June, to April- August. He makes some very good points, but it is going to upset some apple carts along the way, mainly the AAABA would be history. The College World Series would be the end of July to beginning of Aug., thus negating most of the AAABA participating players and teams. And football camps starting about the same time. His arguments center around northern climate teams and associated problems with cold weather and scheduling, and heavy travel expenses for early season southern trips, and kids having to miss their "educational endeavors" with the associated travel. Any thoughts from y'inz on this?

It's kind of crazy when you think about the huge advantage that teams from the south and west have in baseball and softball. In what other sport is there such an uneven playing field.

Didn't see the article, but not so sure about some of the ramifications. The AAABA league would be impacted by kids playing for their college teams during their regular season, not playing in the CWS. Its rare for a player in the AAABA tournament to play in the Division 1 CWS.

Baltimore and New Orleans might be affected, two Johnstown kids have made it that far recently, but it's a rarity.

From what I've heard, those two franchises aren't coming back. AAABA is looking to go with younger players.

How do you determine who is eligible to participate long after the school year has ended? Senior baseball players should be getting on with their lives' work.

Yes, there is a big advantage to being located in warmer climates. If you haven't noticed, that has become the case in college football as well.
