$50,000,000 Forest Hills High School.

The article states they are nixing an auxiliary gym for 1 million, so they were planning on having a normal gym for athletic events, an auxiliary gym, and whatever that thing is they built a few years ago? What exactly is in the "Fieldhouse" that sits in the one endzone?

Hell the whispers in the area here were they were talking about tearing down the field house. I'm guessing this auxiliary gym was their answer to replace it if that indeed was a true rumor. I laughed at the thought of it as well.

A couple points here. The initial bids were for 48 Mil. They sent them all back to be pared down and re-bid, and supposedly "cut" between 6 and 7 mil. out. Then they started construction, and because it's in the flood plain that someone or someones, overlooked in the beginning, they decided to have the general ground contractor haul in how many thousands of tons of stone to "build up" the base, before any footers or foundations are put in. Now- to skirt a couple building codes, since the fieldhouse is an existing structure, and proposed part of the new complex, there is to be a second-floor enclosed walkway to connect to the new construction to it. The cost over-runs have jacked the projected costs to just shy of 50 mil. There are many of us residents who have never used the fieldhouse facility and never will, because the hours open to residents is not conducive to me. And since the proposed auxiliary gym has been scratched, the fieldhouse courts will be used even more for gym and extra-curricular practices, etc., and further reduce use by residents. Rumor has it the current Jr. High will be put on the market for possible conversion to a senior residence or ?? The drama continues.

I have family in the FH district, but live in a district where the school is falling apart and there is no money, so I have to comment on this.

The statement, "The drama continues" is crap. You should be very thankful that your district is building a new, top-notch facility, that you have a field house, that you have a campus, and that you have a building someone wants to buy.

Most people would be thrilled with this situation. I know I would be.

Yes, it's a lot of money and a lot of it is on the backs of taxpayers, but at the end of the day, the district has to attract the best talent in terms of administrators, teachers, and yes, coaches, and having outstanding facilities, with updated technologies and comfort, not to mention convenience, safety, etc., is huge. Richland's facility is beautiful.

It's not an easy job, and I'm sure there are hiccups along the way with every major project like this. Be thankful that the kids in the district are going to have the privilege and opportunity to experience that campus when it's all said and done.

Hushie, you know, you have to live here to see all the behind the scenes stuff. If my post sounded derogatory to you, I'm sorry I stepped on your toes. I tell it like it is, call 'em like I see 'em. The original proposals over 5 years ago, were to be the "Second Richland". The FH district does NOT have the tax base Richland does, does it? Enrollments have been dropping over the past few years. Fact.

Are there renderings of the New gym? Will the new gymnasium be able to host district playoff games and other such events?

You would know more than I. However, in the big picture of things, it's not such a bad situation. Not everyone is going to get what they want or be happy, and if it's on a flood plain, it's not an easy project, especially when you start trying to cut back on things you originally wanted and have to build around the fieldhouse and stadium.

Again, you would know more than I, but from an outsider's perspective, I'd be thrilled at the end of the day to be getting a new $50 million high school.

Today's paper stated the gym will seat 1,100. Now can we get back to focusing the spotlight on Osborne St. and the circus? LOL

Maybe Forest Hills Public will have to start charging for Junior High games to cover the costs lol.

I'm just curious if there will be another local gym to host basketball playoff games since Johnstown chooses not to anymore.
