Friday night boys picks
2 Charter School
1 All City Public (Constitution)
6 Faith based schools.
7 public schools.
I agree with all the picks though. Monessen might win, same with Cathedral Prep. The other games should be decided handily.

Rough year for the WPIAL. I think the only team to move to the semis will be Quippa.

Mars has a good chance also, but no sure bet. Quips should be rolling tomorrow if you ask me.

Cathedral Prep and Archbishop Carroll could play next Tuesday. There will be like no fans there because it will be impossible for the fans to get their in time.

Re: Friday night boys picks
How does 3 out of 8 boys state quarterfinals games end in 30 point blowouts?
38 point win and a 32 point win in 2 of the 4 "A" games.
29 point win in one of the "AAA" games.
This should not be happening this deep into the state playoffs. The PIAA seriously needs to consider leveling the playing field in basketball. I'm not suggesting that I have all the answers, but continuing to turn a blind eye towards how some of these teams are being built needs to be addressed. I feel bad for the schools that develop these players from a young age and build a competitive program year in and year out only to be throttled in the state playoffs by a team that kids just "happen" to transfer in to.

Re: Friday night boys picks
You would think that teams like MCS and Constitution would want to challenge themselves and play up instead of playing in A. They play great competition all year in Philly then play in the A playoffs and throttle everyone. Can't be too productive for them to beat everyone so easily.
Re: Friday night boys picks
It is in their right to do so since they are truly single-A according to their enrollment, but Constitution is the defending double-A champion. You would think they would want to play up instead of playing single-A competition in the state tournament.
Re: Friday night boys picks
If Farrell beats Kennedy in Western Final, and then should meet and beat the charter from the East, all arguments like this get derailed again. Farrell will graduate maybe 70 students this year, and they could very well be the best team in all of District X. (West Middlesex may argue this point). Proponents of private/Charter schools will point to Farrell as an example that the scales are not tipped in favor of charter. So, those who are proponents of a traditional all public format, should we root for perhaps the best public school team left to lose? To get blown out??? Anyway, this is 40 year old complaint, I have said it before, this is money driven problem. Once the money dries up from people not attending these games, only then will it stop. BUT, I can guarantee you, there is not a venue big enough in all of DX to hold the fans who will want to see Farrell/Kennedy, Round 4. Someone, I believe on this site, made the comment about a public bracket and a Private/Charter bracket, and then have the two winners playoff....why not? In AAA boys Prep will have to travel at least four hours one way to play another private from Philly just to determine who gets to play in State Championship game. So, travel problems should not be a problem for such a bracket, because as it is set now, we have two teams playing in "WESTERN FINAL" that geographically speaking, could not be further away from one another.
I once heard Brad Cashman say at a meeting that his dream was to get Philadelphia into the PIAA, now, his dream is a reality, and the rest of the state pays the price for that districts cavalier approach to "creating" teams. People can argue all they want, but for a guy who is a public school proponent, the system as it stands now is a mess.
