Couch Potato Guide: Week One

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

10. North Carolina vs. South Carolina Thursday 6:00 ESPN

All you have between real live college football games are four more restless nights, you can do it, trust me. How does South Carolina get this opener every year? What do they have ESPN? Or does the world wide leader know Steve Spurrier will bench every quarterback he has before the game is over, I suppose that's pretty good TV in itself.

9. Michigan at Utah 8:30 Thursday FS1

Everyone's favorite khaki wearing football coach is returning to the college game, what a day it will be!!! Seriously though, it could be the start of something big for Michigan. Maybe not this year, but if Ohio State ANNNND Michigan are playing at a high level in the Big Ten East, it will be great, or very annoying for college football. Meyer and Harbaugh, the new Woody and Bo?

8. Arizona State vs. Texas A&M (Houston) Saturday 7:00 ESPN

Everyone's favorite jerk, Todd Graham, will be on a primetime game wearing that stupid headset like he's some 13 year old playing Call of Duty. But aside from that, holy crap this game will be high scoring.

7. Kent State at Illinois Friday 9:00 B1G Network

I mean, this one's gonna be awkward, right?

6. Washington at Boise State Friday 10:15 ESPN

Nothing like the tradition of hurting your eyes watching a football game on bright blue artificial turf for three hours.

5. Louisville vs Auburn (Atlanta) Saturday 3:30

Bobby Petrino returns to the Georgia Dome, let the jokes begin, let's just hope he sticks around long enough for them.

4. Texas at Notre Dame Saturday 7:30 NBC

Texas in South Bend. A night game in South Bend. Not the usual stuff you see on opening weekend, so it should be entertaining for those purposes alone. The results can be fun either way, A) Notre Dame's national championship hype train will never leave the station or B) Notre Dame's hype train will get started and will almost assuredly crash at some point. However it works, it ends with Notre Dame fans upset - and that's all anyone can really want.

3. Alabama vs. Wisconsin 8:00 (Arlington) Saturday ABC 8:00

Ah yes, everyone's favorite college football tradition - an overmatched, slow Big Ten team going to a "neutral" site down south to play a good SEC team to open the year. I mean, Paul Chryst on primetime against Nick Saban? As a disgruntled Pitt fan, heck yeah I'll watch that.

2. Ohio State at Virginia Tech Monday 8:00 ESPN

A weekend jam packed with football of all kinds, some stressful Pirates games with the Cardinals to watch, so what do you get? A pretty good game on the holiday to wind down the exciting weekend will be. Lane Stadium for a night game rivals any home field advantage in the country, it will be some kind of scene in Blacksburg. Who will be Ohio State's QB? They are the first unanimous preseason #1 team EVER, and they don't know who their QB is. It just doesn't seem fair.

1. Pirates-Cardinals Series. Friday 7 Root Saturday 4 FS1 Sunday Night Baseball 8:00 ESPN

Yes, you should watch all three games even with a million football games on a million different channels. The Bucs have been playing unbelievable baseball of late, but they can't catch the Cardinals for some reason. All I can come up with is that Mike Matheny sold his soul to the devil, anyone else have an idea?

Honorable Mention - Attend a High School Football game

I mean, it goes against the whole concept of the couch potato guide, but there's nothing quite like a football game on a Friday night in Western PA.

LHAC week 1 BMCHS @ FH. It goes like this..... Beat the Crushers, I don't care if the Rangers lose all 9 other games.

I wouldn't be terribly worried about McCort if I were you. Start thinking ahead until next week ;)

You didn't see FH scrimmage. I did, both of 'em. Ugly, and not leaving a lot to hope for. 5-5.

Fh didn't do that bad vs bedford. I saw 2tds by bedford varsity. One was a pass which the kid might have touched the ground and 2 was when they had the sticks with cook going in on a short one. I don't count the jvs. Mccort looked good too vs carroll, but bc is bad this year. Should be in the west pac. Fh offense didn't do that well. The qb is slow footed and got sacked and picked a lot. I think it will be a good game. Good luck to both.

Scrimmages are scrimmages, we'll see what happens Friday night. I expect Forest Hills to win, but it should be closer than last year's meeting.
