Pirates Game 6 Thoughts: 2-1 Loss to the Reds
The Pirates got 6 innings of 1 run ball from fifth starter, Jeff Locke today, but could not capitalize on his effort for a win. They stranded 14 guys on base, which is pretty much the story here. Freese with 6 guys left on base, Harrison with 7. Just not a good day for those guys. The Pirates get on base a good deal, but have failed to come up with a big hit the past two days to bring home some runs. Oh well, 4 game set with Detroit starting tomorrow at 1:00.

30+ Runners Left on Base in the last two games versus the Reds. You mentioned Freese(6), Harrison(7) today combined with Mercers 7 yesterday and this is just totally a joke for a major leaguer as a hitter that's not a pitcher. We need a "Searage" type of coach for hitting in the worst way.

The Pirates are third in the NL in Batting Average and 1st in On Base Percentage. I'm expecting this team will score their fair share of runs this season.

I guess I should have said "clutch or situational" hitting coach. You still get where I was going with it.

Oh I know, just pointing out they are hitting, just not coming down with timely hitting.

I mean they had a clutch game one this series. Losing 2 of 3 this early on in a season against a solid team is not a big deal.
Pirates have had a solid bullpen the last few years. If the bats even stay 90% of where they are now, come J months the team will take off

Missed opportunities.
Fortunately, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
Presently, the NL Central is the only Division in which everyone is at .500, or better. Gonna be a battle of attrition. With what the Bucs have as backups/reinforcements, they'll be in the thick of the race the entire season.

Plate discipline was horrible this game. That kid pitching for the Reds could not find the plate in the first 2-3 innings. Heck, in the first, he should have walked two guys in! They deserved to lose with all those LOB. This is definitely a loss to bookmark if things shake out close in the race to win the division.
