This is a high school football forum, how schools perform academically is just as important as a football game! If not more important!!!

Honesly we should treat these schools tougher in that any schools below a 75% should be put on probation and banned from post season activities!

So after the regular season is over, each school should evaluate all the football players on the team, add up their scores, and come up with their average score for the team. If less than 75%, the team should be banned from post-season play or post season activities? So if you have 50 kids on the team, and 7 are goofballs which bring the team score down below 75%, then the rest should be punished?

Not a team a whole school! Education should be the #1 goal of any school. Being able to participate is a privilege. Some of these numbers are very very scary! If we prioritize education over athletics than there is a real problem.

Blairsville (79.1; 11-0) vs. Portage (75.3; 10-1)

Do all schools have standards that athletes must meet to remain academically eligible throughout football season?

No school can change a home environment. There is no amount of money that can fix that. Perhaps Newt's orphanages weren't such a bad idea? Sadly, there are many kids that probably should be left behind. Welfare is the cheaper option. What group of kids do I think could be helped by a change in school environment? I think the low achievers at the best schools could flourish at a well funded, low performing school.

Discussing football factories' academic performance is certainly relevant on this forum. konjo beat me to it but I do think his benchmark may be set a little high!

Spin and crunch the numbers any way you want to suit your own personal agenda- a kid's future desire to learn is planted at HOME at ages 3-5. If the home environment is poor, it doesn't matter to which school district he goes . There are countless examples of over-achieving kids at under-achieving schools.
It ain't over until it's over.

I too think sports should be a reward for performance in school. Unfortunately I think too much emphasis is placed on sports at times by certain schools to the point where it is more important to win a game than for the students to get an education.
